Sandvik introduces styrene-free resin capsule, re-enters US market at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2024
Sandvik is launching new ground support solutions for underground mining at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2024, including a styrene-free resin capsule and the latest generation of the ARI (Automatic Resin Injection) system for automated resin capsule installation.
The new Fasloc ® SF Styrene-Free resin capsules for anchoring bolts to surrounding strata improve safety by eliminating styrene as a component. The capsules provide improved performance and easier installation, increasing productivity.
“Keeping people safe is the foundation of Sandvik’s ground support offering and key promise to all underground mining customers,” said Martin Rier, President of Ground Support at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. “Whether it be bolts, mesh, injection chemicals, resin capsules or digital solutions, all products and systems contribute to making mining and tunneling safer and more productive.”
The ARI system enables bolting operators to automatically load and inject resin cartridges into a borehole before installing a rock bolt. The user interface is fully integrated to the main display on Sandvik’s intelligent rock bolters. Operators can follow the different phases of the injection process on the rig’s display. ARI features two separate storages for fast set and low set cartridges, and automatically realizes which cartridge sequence an operator needs. ARI is fully tested and optimized for Sandvik’s resin capsules, creating an innovative end-to-end solution for our customers.
Sandvik will also launch a new pumpable resin system available for the Sandvik DD422i Dual Controls enables increased efficiency when performing bolting operations. Sandvik DD422i Dual Controls can drill holes using the left boom and execute resin bolting with the right boom, equipped with bolting tools. The tank system is installed on the rear frame, increasing the total length of the machine. The resin pumping and grouting process is fully controlled and monitored on the operator display while the resin flow is supervised with two resin flow meters. The system is fully tested with the DSI Inject Mineral Bolt urea-silicate resin and rock bolts. This new solution will provide customers real added value through fully coordinated and integrated product solutions.
Following Sandvik’s acquisition and integration of DSI Underground and the expiration of a no-compete agreement, MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2024 marks Sandvik’s formal re-entry to the US market for ground support consumables such as bolts, mesh, injection chemicals and resin capsules.
“We’re excited to be reestablishing our presence in the US market,” Rier said. “With locations in all major US mining regions, we can always support our customers quickly with short delivery routes.”
