Sandvik showcases OEM-agnostic safety solution for underground mining at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2024

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is showcasing its OEM-agnostic Newtrax Advanced Proximity Detection System (APDS) this week at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2024.

Designed to improve safety and optimize operational efficiency, the scalable OEM-agnostic safety solution enables advanced proximity detection, providing both advisory and intervention controls for safer and more efficient operations. This innovative technology is designed to mitigate the risks of injuries, fatalities and collisions involving pedestrians, light vehicles and heavy equipment in complex underground environments. The system provides unparalleled situational awareness and control by effectively addressing pedestrian safety concerns and mitigating collisions between light and heavy vehicles. When combined with Location Tracking, part of OptiMine® MDP, APDS enables supervisors and safety personnel to identify high-risk areas and take appropriate actions, thereby significantly improving safety and operational efficiency. In addition to elevating safety standards, the solution boosts productivity by minimizing downtime associated with accidents and safety incidents.

"We are committed to advancing the future of underground mining operations with technology that prioritizes safety and efficiency," said William-Alexis Bouchard, Product Line Manager Newtrax, Automation at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. "APDS provides the capability to dynamically adjust detection zones, reducing nuisance alarms and potential alarm fatigue for operators while enhancing productivity. It is a robust and adaptable solution to minimize risks and enhance operational performance in even the most challenging conditions."

The solution, which is already commercially available, has a proven track record of addressing some of the most critical safety challenges within underground mining. Its effectiveness and reliability has been demonstrated in numerous operations.
